New Gun Bill Introduced

No guns if you have been adjudged to be mentally ill, and no guns if you’re on the terror watch list or the no-fly list.

The sponsor of a new bill, State Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) says that’s just common sense.

That can be a tough conversation in a place like Illinois.

“It’s always difficult,” he admits, “and we always need to be mindful not to go overboard. But I think if you are too dangerous to fly on a plane, or if you’ve been adjudicated to be a threat to yourself or to the community, you probably ought not to have weapons. I think that’s just common sense.”

Harris – filing the bill just after San Bernardino and just before the third anniversary of Sandy Hook – says Republican governors in New Jersey and Ohio agree with him, but his bill so far has no Republican co-sponsors, and the only one outside the Chicago area is from Rockford.
